About Lottieknits

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Hi, I'm Charlotte, but everyone calls me Lottie and I'm the dyer behind Lottieknits!

I dye beautiful yarns in my small studio in Make Hamilton Square, a creative hub in Birkenhead, by the River Mersey. You can catch the famous ‘Ferry cross the Mersey’ over to Liverpool just a short walk from my studio!

Lottieknits is a one-woman operation. Besides dyeing all the yarn, I keep the website updated, photograph, label and list the yarns, design and layout knitting patterns, pack and ship the orders… everything really!

How it all started…

I've had a passion for colour and creativity since I was little and despite briefly pursuing a more scientific career path, illness brought that to an end and ultimately led me back to a more creative life. I’ve worked in the knitting industry since 2010, advising knitters in a yarn shop for over five years, as well as designing patterns freelance and working as a Creative Assistant for a yarn company for over five years. I learnt to dye a few years ago and fell in love with it, so in January 2017 I finally gave in to temptation and opened up my Etsy shop to start selling my hand-dyed yarn. I moved to my own website in 2018, in September 2019 I moved into my own studio in Birkenhead and in 2020 I became a full-time hand dyer.

I also design knitting patterns, and have had my work published in two books by Fyberspates (The Cumulus Collection and The Faery Wings Collection), as well as magazines, including The Knitter, Knit Now, Let’s Knit, Knitting and Artesano over the past ten years. You can find my knitting patterns in my Payhip shop, as well as Love Crafts and Ravelry.
